I write this I am watching the Dallas Mavericks try to stave off elimination against Golden State in Oakland, CA. The game is late in the first half and Golden State leads by two as I write this blog update. Baron Davis just hit a ridiculously tough shot and while I am not a big NBA fan during the regular season, I have been reminded again tonight how good playoff basketball is especially in a game that could decide a series. We’ll see how this one turns out but all I know is I am really excited to watch the second half. Now on to the Cubbies. With Angel Guzman struggling in his last start for Class AAA Iowa I wouldn’t be shocked to see Lou Piniella skip his turn in the rotation and wait until next week to make a roster move. When that time comes what will GM Jim Hendry do? I made a lot of calls today to several baseball experts including a former front office type and a couple of scouts and they gave me varied opinions on what to do with the crowded outfield situation. Bridgmohan has been out since Mar. 23 when he fell from his mount here and suffered a severe cut to his leg. It was his second major injury of the season on the heels of a record-setting Tropical-at-Calder meet late last year where he won 110 races in 60 days. The 19-year-old native of Jamaica, who grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, broke his right hand and two ribs and his left collarbone in a spill on opening day Jan. 3.
